Art, culture, & community.

We're a publishing and design studio based in Newburgh, NY — creating work that connects people to place.

Our Story

Art & Anthropology Press began as a graphic design and digital media strategy firm — helping cultural organizations, universities, and nonprofits find their voice through branding, identity, and publication design. Over two decades and four cities, we built a practice rooted in research, storytelling, and a deep respect for the communities we serve.

The move into publishing was a natural evolution. After years of designing books, catalogs, and exhibition materials for other organizations, we realized we had developed a distinct editorial perspective — one that sat at the intersection of art and anthropology. We wanted to create a space for the kinds of books we kept wishing existed: artist books, critical texts, and cultural documents that treat design as content, not decoration.

Today, Art & Anthropology Press operates as both a design studio and an independent publishing imprint. We work with cultural organizations, universities, nonprofits, and creative businesses who care about the intersection of art and impact — and we publish work that extends that mission into print.

Rooted in Newburgh

Art & Anthropology was founded in Denver, Colorado in 2000, where we cut our teeth on branding, identity, and publication design for cultural organizations, municipal agencies, and creative businesses across the Front Range.

From Denver, we moved to Ithaca, New York, where we deepened our work with universities and educational institutions — including Cornell University, Ithaca College, and a range of arts and civic organizations across the Finger Lakes. We then relocated to Oahu, Hawaii, where we raised our kids and leaned into community-based design, working with local businesses and cultural projects rooted in place.

In 2020, we came home to Newburgh — the Hudson Valley city where our co-founder grew up. Today, we bring two decades of national experience to a community with deep history, fierce creativity, and enormous potential. Alongside the studio, we also run the Newburgh Creates Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit delivering youth arts, robotics, and technology programming to Newburgh's children and families.
